Chopo’s Northside Bar
About This Spot
Walking into Chopo’s Northside Bar feels like stepping into a tight-knit community gathering spot where the pace slows just enough to savor each moment. Nestled along Monroe Street in Manistee, this is the kind of place where familiar faces nod hello and barstools come with welcoming stories. The atmosphere balances a casual hum of conversation with bursts of laughter, all underlined by the easy camaraderie of locals and visitors alike.
Inside, the lighting sits comfortably between bright and dim, giving the space a lived-in warmth that invites lingering, whether you’re dropping in for a cold beer or settling in for a bite. The bar hums with friendly banter—sometimes playful teasing—and the occasional cheer that makes you feel part of something a little bigger than yourself. It’s not a formal setting, nor is it trying to be: there’s an honesty here, a joyful simplicity that comes from genuine hospitality and the pleasure of sharing good food and drink in good company.
Chopo’s menu feels like a celebration of classic bar food made with a thoughtful touch: imagine perfectly crisp fried pickle chips shared between friends, or wings that carry just the right kick to keep you coming back. Seafood highlights also draw from the shores nearby—fresh perch and catch-of-the-day options bring a local feel that’s hard to resist. It’s the kind of place where plate and pint work together to build effortless connections, and where bringing your own fresh catch to share only adds to the warmth of the experience.
There’s a lived-in ease to the place that embraces both the midafternoon quiet and the lively weekend crowds. Even when busy, the rhythm maintains a sincere, welcoming pulse—reminding you that good bars aren’t just about the menu but the human moments unfolding around it. Whether you’re nestled into a booth with a garden salad or gathered at the bar for a shrimp basket and a ginger beer, you’re stepping into a story that belongs as much to its guests as to its friendly staff.

Stopped by mid-afternoon on a Thursday expecting a small local gathering of afternoon drinkers. Place was 1/2 full, almost everyone eating. Ordered the salad and the perch basket. Both were excellent and worth the wait. Reasonable prices, cold beer. Recommend Will return

Place was lively with friendly customers and staff that gently teased us for being Ohio State fans. Wings were very good! Highly recommend this place for visitors looking for cold beer and food in a wonderful environment.

I had to leave a review even though we left before we were served anything. We stopped for lunch on Saturday of Labor Day weekend. It was busy. The bartender was flying solo. She was doing the best she could. There were people waiting for drinks, waiting for food, and waiting at the door for a clean table. We were on a schedule, and this wasn't going to do for us. It was a nice little place, and we will stop by for something to eat another time. When it's not as busy.

We took our own Walleye in for their catch and cook! $5 per person w coleslaw and tartar sauce and beans maybe...fries are an additional 3$! Outstanding! We had enough to share around the bar and it was a hit! Great staff and the gent who owns it was wonderful! We'll surely be back!

I didn't vibe with one of the staff members she came off a little curt giving me what I perceived, rude looks, other than this everything was good and service was good, food was yummy and there was live music. They serve a really good Moscow mule which isn't always the case.

The Northside Bar is the local place in town! The Working mans place to get an Adult beverage, Burger and Wings. The Wings real wings, not out of a frozen bag. The Burgers are not your standard burger grind burger from other restaurants in town. Solid Place. Cash Only which is not a problem for me! Smart Business move.
